“The Fair Maid Of Perth”

Life has certainly been manic the last two weeks - so much to do and so little time to do it in.

Thanks to all of you lovely bloggers who made a comment on “Doll”.

I am so grateful to all of you who both commented and emailed me.

I am in the midst of another commissioned book that is very complex so most of my attention is zoned in there.

By the way I am often frustrated by those bloggers who leave such wonderful comments but I am unable to get back to them and say thanks because there is no link, or they anonymous or there profile is locked.

To those people I say a huge thanks here.

As soon as I finished my "Doll" book I set about completing this book that you see the images of ... remember I had told you that I had started this a little while ago.

It follows the story line of The Frozen Charlotte Doll.

The main purpose of the book is that it is a great techniques book for those interested in making mixed media books. I wanted to share my knowledge of making very dimensional pages work in a book form.

Sharing the techniques I have discovered and created myself to create your own book of memories is what this is all about.

I will be holding a two day workshop in Perth in late August where I will also be teaching this book.

It will be hosted by my mate Sharon Manning .
who runs many very successful workshops over there.
You can find out all the details here.

So all you Perth artists - come along and join us.
GIVE-AWAY TIME:

I wanted to give back some of the “loveliness” and warmth generated by my book “Doll” – hence I have decided to do a give-away.

Can you guess how many pages, including the cover and back there was in “Doll”?
Yes that includes all the pages I did not upload here, I mainly showed right sided pages - hehehe.

First three people to guess correctly will be sent a gorgeous pack of goodies.

So come on join in!

I also took a job as an art journaling instructor in a nearby city. WHY OH WHY..haven't any of you great people made a book on how to INSTRUCT??hehehe. I am scared to death, and have one month to learn how to do it.

azirca said...

Hhhm my guess is 19 single (or 38 double if you are counting each side)

Wow your technique book is stunning, a real visual treat.

Judy,

Sorry I haven't commented on DOLL yet, I am on SLOWWW service up here in the boonies. I had to try for this though! The book was amazing and I am going to say 12 pages - each page not counting the both sides of work. That's still 24 peices you had to do! Yikes! THats a lot for 2 weeks.

This new book looks awesome too!

Cheryl

Laura Jane said...

Hmm, my guess is 40 pages?

It was a beatiful and intimate tribute to the pair of them.

I'm very tempted to come to this workshop.....

Angie in AZ said...

That's the fattest book I've ever seen! I'm going to guess that if counting each page facing as an individual page, I'm going to guess 56 total, since you always use significant number AND, that is a number in the book. Just a stab at it. And girl, you come to AU with Michael next year and teach this new class! I'll be a sure "in"!

Jyl said...

Delurking to tell you that "Doll" is wonderful. Thanks so much for sharing it with us!

And... I'm guessing 18.

Judy Wise said...

Gorgeous, incredible, I've just about used up all my adjectives by now. I'm going to guess a dozen pages. As complex as yours are I think that would be a fat book by the time you finished. hearts.

Marissa said...

That's an amazing book! I'm guessing 16 pages. They are all so beautiful!

The Feathered Nest said...

24 is my guess but someone already guessed this number...I'll say 48 that would be fronts and backs. Your work is simply breathtaking! xxoo, Dawn

I see a lot of art of the internet and usually think to myself, that "I could do that." But this, is amazing and I think there's probably no way in he** that I could do what Judy does. I love it!

Leslie said...

Your new book is wonderful. I wish I could go to Perth and take this workshop with you Perth ladies!

Hmmm. I'm going to guess 18 also.

Glad to see more work here. Now I'm back to look again!

Another fabulous project Judy. I'm sure your class will be booked out. I don't have any inside information, but I'd say there's a few pages, I'll go with 22 all up.

OK, deal me in. I'm guessing 14, with the cover. As dimensional, or is that "demential" as you work...having seen it with my own eyes, I'm going with a lower number than anyone else.

Beautiful book. Great subtle coloring.

Peta said...

Judy, this book 'Doll' is HUGE in size, effort and meaning, I'll take a guess that there are 26 pages, plus the 2 for the covers, I also see a smaller page attached to a larger page so this would be a total of 29...so that would be 58 if counting each side as a page....
Peta

minlinhe said...

Have long admired your work. It is truly amazing on the internet and based on the 'Doll' recipients reactions, overwhelming in person. If I were to guess, I'd say there are 8 pages at two sides apiece totaling 16 pages. Thanks for posting your work. It is phenomenal!
Mindy ;o)

Sue said...

I'll say 56 pages, I know that's a lot but boy there was so much in there.
Perth is so far away, bugger!!!! Thanks for showing the pictures of this book, once again I am in awe, you continue to amaze me.

as far as number of pages, wow, each is such a treasure trove that it seems to count as a hundred different pages every time i look.
hmmm...i'll say 28 full spreads/56 if counting each page.

Every time I visit your blog Judy I am inspired. I have started one of my own books - i bought a book and ripped out the text lol - well, thats a start. I too have been making a lot of the little cages lately so its lovely to see one here in your book. I love the dark wire you use though I cant seem to get it here :(

Oh - I guess 50 for your book I'm crossing all fingers and toes ;-0

Susan Tuttle said...

Let's go for a nice even 20 -- I have no idea, but it seems to be in range with other people's responses. I just adore the book's cover -- the muted blue and all of the interesting hardware.

hugs,
Susan

Oh, if I lived in Perth, I would be at that workshop in a heartbeat. LOVE the book, it is so what I like and yet, what I never get to do.

I'm going to guess there were 50 pages (counting front as one and back as another)...I tried to count in the picture, but too hard, and since it was their 50th anniversary, guessing maybe you used that number for the number of pages (covers & all)

lola said...

I'll guess 22 pages.
GORGEOUS, AMAZING stuff you're doing!!! I hope you've copywritten every photo & design - this is great stuff. Publishers should be knocking your door down with offers to write a how-to book of your designs & techniques. Love, love, LOVE your work! Congratulations!

Pearl Maple said...

At a wild guess, 25, you always pack so much into your pages it is hard to judge. Lucky those who are attending in Perth will get to see your work up close. It is amazing the way these peices magically find you when it is so hard to find treasures here in Oz.

kathywas said...

OMG, Judy...you've done it again! What a phenomenal book!! I just love the thought and creativity that you put into everything that you do. I would love to get inside that head of yours!!

I've missed so much while taking a hiatus from blogging, so I have a lot of catching up to do. I'll take a stab at the number of pages in this book. My first reaction was 48, but since that has already been named, I'll increase it to 52. This includes the fronts, back, and any of the hinged page inclusions that you added inside.

kathywas said...

Well, although I just commented on the number of pages, I have come to the conclusion that there are probably 50 pages in the book. You always put so much symbolism into everything that you do, and since this book was for a 50th Wedding Anniversary, I'd guess that you put 50 pages into it!

Redness said...

My guess is 30 pages plus front and back cover ... then again you think so symbolically could it be 50 pages, including both front and back cover representing their 50 years together ... now what do I do ????
You're so darn, marvellously, clever Judy. xo

I was never great at "guess the number of jelly beans in the jar"... but I would guess 12 double sided pages. Hoping all is well with you, dear one :) xox

Beth Bricker said...

This book is absolutely stunning. I wish could take this class...maybe someday. My guess is 11 pages front and back, so 22 counting both sides.

Dale said...

The pages are pretty thick...I am guessing... 10 pages *20 double sided*. Crossing my fingers for luck :).

Your work on this new book is fabulous too, just as is all the work you show us here. I just love the colours that you use... they are so grunged and muted. Very vintage style... fabulous!

This new book is beautiful. The cover was beautiful then I saw the pages, just stunning.
Each book seems better than the last.

Pages .Well why not put in a guess 37 is my number.Nancy Gene Armstrong

gaby said...

People here guess about 30 pages. I think there are more then this, because the artist have much, much more when he (she)creates a work.
I'll guess you've made about 60 pages and then you selected about 30.
I hope I'm right.
My big dream is to take a workshop with you, but I'm in Brazil!

Ev said...

Hi Judy, I would take a guess at 27 pages. I am trying to work out if I can come to the workshop..would dearly love to. I haven't commented for ages and still have to catch up on Doll. That is my plan for this week as the kids will be back at school. Yeeehaaaaa!!! LOL

Hi Judy,
I'm not going to guess the amount of pages but knowing you, there were way more than you first planned!

Now ladies, Perth is not that far away really - I know you think WA is a country off the coast of Africa - but it's only 3-4 hours by plane (Sydney/Melbourne). Hehehehehe! I can't wait to see this amazing project IRL that we will be doing with Judy. I know those of you that have signed up are very excited!!!!!!
